IMPROVEMENT OF PROVISIONS, RELATED TO PARTICIPANTS OF THE CRIMINAL PROCEDURE IN LATVIA
Abstract
An inalienable content of a state of law, which is Latvia, is the protection and enforcement of rights and legitimate interests of the individual, especially in relation to enforcement of rights of persons, involved in criminal procedure. Freedom of the individual, his/her rights and guarantees are increasing and it is also a characteristic of the criminal procedure. Latvia is a full member of the European Union. To issues of enforcement of human rights are paid special attention and attempts are made to change radically the legislation of Latvia for the better. The criminal and procedural law which came into force on the 1st of October 2005 in Latvia, resolved to a greater extent the issues and problems in the field of enforcement of human rights and guarantees of individual rights. The right to liberty and security of person is the most important human right. Freedom and security of person allow a person to perform any actions, not contradicting the law. The article examines the international requirements for the observance of the human rights in the criminal procedure, determines the legal status of the participants of the criminal procedure and analyzes the legal norms of the criminal and procedural law, related to the participants of the criminal procedure, including the persons, entitled to protection, injured persons subjected to special protection, officials, conducting criminal procedure in Latvia.
