THE COMPONENTS OF AN IDEAL POLITICIANВ’S IMAGE: THE VIEWS OF POLITICIANS

Abstract

Image making of politicians is nowadays a pre-set, specially managed and construed process aimed at the key objective of drawing attention to specific individual, party or political process. Quite often such images do not match the real personalities and their features, they only exist on the cognition of political supporters as reflection of the developed image. The images, however, serve as the key tools that provide support, attract attention and votes by electorates, raise to trust, expectations, etc. The aim at the research is to find out the components of an ideal politician's image. In order to find out the components of the image of an ideal politician, scientific literature was analysed and five politicians were interviewed. The opinion of politicians about the image of an ideal politician is associated with the perception that politician is a servant to nation, a patriot and statesman evaluated by electorate and repeatedly elected, capable of taking unpopular decisions in thinking about the future of the country. The ideal politician is honest, fulfilling his promises. Latvian politicians also believe that the ideal of a politician's ideology and belonging to one of the political parties is important, it is a way of thinking and belonging to one of the groups.
