THE EU MISSION IN KOSOVO AFTER THE INDEPENDENCE AND ITS ROLE IN THE REGION

Abstract

After the war in Kosovo, the country declared the independence, and the European UnionВ’s mission after KosovoВ’s independence will be the focus of this paper. The history of the newest state in the Europe and the course of its relations with Serbia over the last century will be reviewed in this paper is well. NATOВ’s intervention, which definitely split Kosovo from Serbia, has created the possibility for the EU mission in the country. One side as if had played a positive role in the region, as is considered by the majority member countries of European Union, U.S. and most Balkan countries, which have good relations with Kosovo, and the other countries, as if had created more problems in the region, such as Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, which did not recognized the new state. The reasons for the EU mission, Missions successes and the intervention will also be explored and analysed. All this will be treated in independent way and in the empiric way combined a quality and quantity methods. The first viewpoint is the inconsistency in the European Union, where five EU members still do not recognise the independence, despite the fact that all others has recognised the independence. The second part will focus on the EU's role in Kosovo and its role in the process of building credibility state institutions and the role in the integration process of the new country in the European Union. Also examined in this paper will be the EU's mission in Kosovo, as the biggest mission of EU.
