WATER AS A PLAY TOOL IN CITIES: CHEONG GYE CHEON RESTORATION PROJECT AS AN EXAMPLE
Abstract
This article focuses on how children play, their behavior while playing and how we can create enjoyable and functional play areas in cities. Children can play anywhere. Important thing is to make play times beneficial for children both physically and mentally. In play environments children are always interested in natural elements such as sand, trees and water because of their play qualities and their power to enable the creation of new games. Because of that reason governments try to increase natural recreation areas in cities. Nowadays, with the right government initiatives, cities can be changed from automobile dominated areas surrounded by concrete blocks into livable, environmentally friendly places. The Cheonggyecheon Restoration project is one of the best examples of initiatives that reflect this concept.
