Abstract

The school system in Slovakia is going through various changes since 2008, which also affected the field of teachers' development. The main change in the field of teachers' development was the adoption of Act 317/2009 - the Teacher Act. The Act defined the credit system and career development. The problem, as demonstrated by the practice during nine years, was the automatic linking of teachers' education to their wages. In the presented contribution, we map the views of the main actors of the school system on the development of educational policy in the field of teachers' professional development. The main research tool to identify the views of school representatives were individual and group interviews with teachers, directors and school inspectors. We processed the results through the Dedoose quality analysis program. The findings have highlighted that the systematization of educational policy in the area of teacher development is essential. At the same time, however, they point out that the automatic link between teachers' education and their salary has led to degradation of their professional development in the eyes of the teachers.
