THE PLACE OF THE DIONYSIAN CORPUS IN THE RECENT ORTHODOX TRADITION
Abstract
Recent Orthodox Tradition is the perpetuity of Christs divine-human life in the Christians from our times understood as part of the Church or of the mystical body of the Resurrected Jesus Christ, the Lord, in Saint Apostle Pauls own words (1 Cor. 1: 27; Eph. 4: 12). Contemporary theological writings, in their authentic state as written testimonies of this real experience are, in their turn, part of this continuous Tradition. They constitute scientific recordings of Gods indescribable uncreated unifying Revelation experienced by the theologians, put later in a symbolical multiplied language, adapted to our human understanding, yet complete truth and heavenly inspired. Because it is notorious fact that Corpus Dionysiacum, in scholars opinion at least, lost almost entirely the halo of scientific writings as they were perceived in the Christian Antiquity and not later than the Reformation times we think of interest to take a glance back at their place and use in the theological works of the recent Fathers of the Church. It is very topical to (try to) clarify if the Dionysian Corpus is still of any importance for the guidance on the life in Christ and if its content came out of empirical facts or is pure philosophy.
