GEORGE ENESCU AND HIS POST-IMPRESSIONIST SYMPHONIC PROFILE
Abstract
George Enescu's music was the result of a deeply personal Romanian synthesis of all the most important dominants of the century (Neo-classicism, Impressionism, national folkloric elements, Germanic tradition). The most complex Romanian musician of all times, he remains the composer with an individual symphonic profile in the orchestral art of the XXth century. The Enescian symphonic work (developed over the course of seven decades) is marked by obvious stylistic changes: the variety of compositional idioms constitutes the sonorous means to reflect the technique to which Enescu has assimilated the representative styles of his time. Among the outstanding Enescian archetypes, we can observe the preference to the parlando rubato system, lyricism and nobility.
