THEORETICAL BASICS OF TEXTCENTRIC APPROACH IN MODERN APPLIED LINGUISTICS

Abstract

The article discusses the concept of text and textcentricity as the basic concepts of the applied linguistics. The article notes that the interest of scientists to the analysis of text is associated with the textcentricity of the humanities in general and of linguistics in particular, since the language system in the communication process is actualized not in an isolated sentence but in the texts of different types and purposes. We believe that the text, being the center of the humanities and determining its textcentricity, is the basis of the textcentric approach to the review, analysis and study of the text as a primary datum of any field of the humanities. It is stressed that the text is the carrier of meanings, it is therefore extremely important to monitor the individualВ’s thinking and creative processes of generation and perception of different text types. The article pays special attention to the consideration of the text categories as features that are common to all the texts and without which there can be no text. It is noted that the text categories are universal and appear in all texts regardless of the language and the text type. It is proved that the text is never modeled by one text category but always by their combination. Special attention is paid to structure, coherence, cohesion and informativity of the text, which as basic principles should become the basis of the textcentric approach in the applied linguistics. According to the authors, this approach, in particular in educational practice, should be aimed at formation and development of cognitive competencies and critical thinking skills of the participants of the communicative act.
