THE NEW ERA OF SUSTAINABLE CITIES IN EASTERN EUROPE DEVELOPMENT PROBLEMS
Abstract
The article concerns urban spaces that are moving towards the principles of sustainable development, which are a currently responsible for shaping the quality of the urban human environment. The inhabitants of Europe, like the rest of the world, face the necessity of making a radical change of lifestyle in cities, mainly in the field of energy consumption, water consumption and waste management. Accelerated technological progress in the world and constantly improving economic conditions of cities development are conducive to the emergence of new interactions between the structure of urban areas and their external environment treated by international organizations as "One Planet Living". The study methodology takes into account the specificity of cities in Eastern Europe concerning Polish cities that have economic problems with maintaining healthy environmental conditions. The article presents one of the research methods for implementing the principles of sustainable urban planning, which includes three main analyzes in the economic, social and environmental fields. These studies relate to various functional and spatial systems of urban development that require infrastructural changes towards sustainable development. Environmental studies were conducted in selected urban areas, taking into account the typology of building, communication and social and economic infrastructure.
