ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF ACCOMMODATION UNITS FOR AN SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

Abstract

Worldwide, one of the most developed industries, it is the hospitality industry that consumes a considerable amount of energy to provide quality and comfort services. The used energy in hotel units has as a major component electricity, while the share of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels is considerably lower. The amount of used electricity depends primarily on the size and nature of the hotel unit, but also on the type of customer and location. In this regard, the article addresses ecological and sustainable alternatives of energy consumption, emphasize the need to use renewable energy technologies for the preparation of hot water, heating / cooling and lighting of accommodation units, and proposes sustainable solutions for plant systems appropriate to the climate conditions in Romania. Taking into account the new regulations on the reduction of primary energy consumption and final energy consumption, the article highlights the fact that for sustainable tourism, the development and operation of accommodation establishments, they must meet energy performance requirements. Joining economic solutions with responsible concepts, both ecologically and energy efficiency, can lead the hospitality industry, through the services they have to provide, to a successful level.
