Abstract

The paper presents the main assumptions about the theory of constraint, particularly with regard to its application in the area of improvement of the organization of production processes. The analysis was made on the example of the lacquering process. In analyzing according to the principle of continual improvement, newly diagnosed "bottlenecks" were presented and possible ways of eliminating them and expected effects were presented. The practical application of the theory of constrains confirms the universality of this approach on many levels, giving the possibility of achieving measurable benefits. With the Five Step Measure approach, the theory of constrains concept allows for endless streamlining of the system by identifying constraints and taking steps to eliminate them. According to POOGI's premises, new bottlenecks have been identified as sources of inefficiencies. Next the operations were selected, best-ridden areas and the whole process is repeated according to the procedure of continuous improvement. During the first implementation, the time needed to paint a representative product was shortened by approximately 5 hours. This improvement causes a 35% reduction in lacquering time. The proposed changes will accelerate the process by more than 100 minutes.
