Abstract

Digitalisation was introduced very rapidly into the daily lives of Northern Europeans and, therefore, this process brought with it significant change to many daily spheres and routines for the country’s population. Nordic countries (including Baltic countries) often top the rankings in terms of innovation and digitalisation, positioning themselves as the digital leaders of Europe. The Baltic region is emerging as Europe’s innovation hub. It is not always easy for senior citizens to adapt to these changes. Modern equipment and applications often complicate rather than ease their lives. Those studies that have been carried out so far have shown that the problem generates financial exclusion which, in its classic sense, means that there are people who have no access to financial goods or services that would match their needs. Our study evidenced the fact that there is still some degree of nostalgia amongst seniors with respect to printed media. However, their attachment to ‘tangible money’ is much greater that is the need to hold a ‘rustling newspaper’ in one’s hands. The digital media climate has forced pensioners to adapt to new forms of media communication which take place via the use of a screen.
