TOPICAL STRUCTURE OF UNIVERSITY NEWS DISCOURSE
Abstract
The paper deals with the analysis of the news university discourse topical structure. The research goal is to propose a new optimal topical structure model for the South Ural State University (SUSU) website. The integral approach to language and text is chosen as the most productive for the analysis. According to this approach, the university discourse is a type of discourse that reflects cognitive, language, social and cultural reality in a university context. The corpus of texts under analysis is represented by 1135 news articles, taken from the SUSU website within one year. The hierarchy of topics in the current topical structure of the SUSU website news discourse is established on the basis of key-word analysis. Comparative study of university news discourse topical structures presented on websites of ten largest universities-participants in the 5-100 Program is conducted. On the basis of a sociolinguistic survey conducted among 200 participants (students, teachers, applicants) a new optimal topical structure of SUSU news discourse is offered. The results of the sociolinguistic survey and key-word analysis contribute to the generation of a new integral topical structure model of the university news discourse.
