INTELLECTUAL QUIZ CONTEST AS A FORM OF FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING IN SCHOOL AND UNIVERSITY ENVIRONMENT
Abstract
The paper is based on the author’s experience of organizing intellectual quiz competitions, held in English, German and French among high-school students and university students since 2009 in Novosibirsk (Russia). The research is based on the analysis of the impact of the intellectual quiz competitions on the development of students’ socio-cultural competence as well as proficiency in a foreign language. For this purpose a questionnaire was constructed and distributed among the participants of the contest including school students and their supervisors. In the course of study quantitative analysis and chi-square analysis were employed to describe and interpret the participants’ opinions on the impact of this event on their linguistic and socio-cultural competence.
