CULTURAL-TOURIST RESOURCES IN DOBROGEA, ROMANIA – UNCAPITALIZED ECONOMIC SOURCE WITHIN LOCAL TOURISM
Abstract
Assessing archaeological and cultural potential is a key milestone to shaping a complex study that can impact sustainable tourism within a particular geographic area. The study aims to identify monuments capable of meeting the requirements of cultural and tourist activity through: accessibility, originality, seniority, maintenance or level of rehabilitation and promotion. The analyzed geographic area is the historical and geographical province of Romania, Dobrogea. It is a province with a great historical background, and the presence of monuments has a peculiarity related to the age of the monuments, as well as by particularities offered by the multi-ethnicity coexisting in this geographical area. The methodology seeks, first of all, to go through the List of Cultural Monuments made up by the Ministry of Culture in Romania. The second stage is the individual analysis on the field for each monument mentioned in the list, as well as the identification of the level of cultural and tourist valorization, according to the mentioned criteria. The tourists' exigent requirements and, generally, the ones of the tourist activity do not allow the listing and usage of the monuments that have very low accessibility, originality or rehabilitation levels within touristic circuits or tourist offerings.
