VALUE SYSTEM OF WOMEN IN PRIVATE SEX BUSINESS

Abstract

The study was aimed at describing the value system of sexual workers in private sex business. The study used the quantitative research strategy and the technique of standardized VALS (Values and Lifestyle) questionnaire. Additionally to the questionnaires, the respondents were also subject to biographical-narrative interviews dealing with the motivation for work in sex business, risk behaviour and other topics. The research set consisted of women working in private sex business (N=37) and advertising their services in the South Bohemian Region and in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. The article is a partial output of the GAJU 029/2016/S project – Life style of women in private sex business and their (self-)reflection. All questionnaires were evaluated with the help of a specific online program. The analysis showed that the primary VALS type, Strivers (23), and the secondary VAL type, Experiencers (8), can be most frequently found among the women. Due to the low number of the respondents, the results cannot be generalized, but specific trends in the typology development are obvious, for example by the respondents' age where the age category of 18-24 years includes the highest number of the Strivers type, while the category of 25-29 years has a decreasing number of that type.
