Abstract

Multicultural education represents a tool for positive utilization of cultural differences in the overall educational process. In this process, classrooms and schools become models of democracy and equality among people in society. In order to achieve such results, a large number of factors is required, starting with the teaching cadres that will act in accordance with the following rules: -Put the student in the focus, i.e. in the center of the overall teaching/learning process; -Promote human rights and show respect for cultural differences; -Behold that all students are able to learn and study; -Accept and recognize students as such and permanently show interest to perfect them upon past grounds and advance them towards the future, by aiming at new experiences for students as part of the multicultural society in which the school operates. -Analyze critically the pressure and relationship between good sense and racism, gender inequality, discrimination and other negative manifestations such as isolation of youngsters and old people in the multicultural society. -Criticize the society for the benefit of social rights and equality. -Take part in common social attempts to create a real democratic society. The educational cadres, in many parts of the world, during the past decades has been struggling with the great challenge of the systematization of students in classrooms, and in this way the preparation of the ground for multicultural instruction based on the diverse composition of classes. Every teaching field can be processed in such a way to picture and reflect upon the real social situation, namely upon the existing differences among students who are offered the service, seeing them as a constitutional part of the country’s and world’s population. The abilities for efficient functioning of different cultural elements are issues that need to be addressed properly. In order for the students to function efficiently and as a whole in a democratic society, they have to learn about differences and injustices which occur at certain times and under given circumstances. Otherwise, our society will not be able to overcome these differences and injustices.
