SOCIO-PSYCHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF MODERN GENERATIONS
Abstract
The construct of "generation" is very popular in science. A generation is a social community of people with a common history, common values and a similar type of mentality. The article discusses the comparative study of Russian generations В«disbelievingВ» ? (1961-1979 birth years) and В«informationalВ» Y (1980-2000 birth years). The historical, psychogenetic, comparative and socio-cultural approaches to the problem of generations change are analysed and contrasted. The methods used include personality methods and the method of personality assessment. We analysed 300 representatives of generations X and Y. The representatives of generation Y showed a lot of suspiciousness, friendliness and aggression. The generation X are the dictator, authoritative and despotic personality types. The article demonstrates that the generations mentality type is related to the general features of the generations in question. The results of the study demonstrate lack of direct transmission between the generations, which leads to indirect transmission of common features. The writer identifies significant differences between the types of mentality characterizing generations X and Y.
