ELEMENTS OF EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION IN INDIVIDUAL CONCEPTS OF TEACHING

Abstract

Education law governing the school system in Slovakia follows the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED). In both theoretical and practical teaching, students acquire the required competencies, knowledge and skills. Teaching is done in compliance with applicable legislation approved in education curricula. Schools should provide pupils with the basic professional knowledge applicable in practice. The tools to reach the educational objective are also the emotions and experiences students can use in the school environment to replace missing expertise. The methods and elements of experiential education streamline the learning process by encouraging students to engage actively in learning itself. Engagement depends on the quality of teaching provided, the educatorВ’s own personality, abilities, competency and experience, and to what extent he or she is able to motivate pupils to learn voluntarily. The information provided to them should be remembered and pupils should be able to apply it while working out challenging solutions. An ideal situation occurs when the educatorВ’s external motivation leads to internal motivation and individual self-realization. The paper discusses the results of a survey about opportunities to utilize elements of experiential education in an educatorВ’s own individual concepts that lead to effective teaching of pupils.
