SOREN KIERKEGAARD'S THREE CRITIQUES OF PHILOSOPHY AS METHOD
Abstract
Criticism of speculative philosophy through the lens of existential communication is a theme that goes through the whole authorship of Danish religious philosopher Soren Kierkegaard; a special attention to it is paid in the works signed by Johannes Climacus. This is one of the reasons why the fore-mentioned works can be employed in researching Kierkegaard’s views on philosophy as method, or rather – his criticism of it. He speaks of the existential communication in the context of several contradictions, e.g. inwardness/outwardness; actuality/possibility; concreteness/abstraction; subjectivity/objectivity. These contradictions are explicated through the themes of subjectivity and subjective time (“Johannes Climacus”), the abstract thinking as acoustic illusion (“Philosophical Fragments”), and impossibility of the system of existence (“Concluding Unscientific Postscript”). The aim of the present paper is to follow Kierkegaard’s reflections on philosophy as method and its critique in order to come to understanding of his approach of existential communication.
