LINGUO-CREATIVE POTENTIAL OF ENGLISH LOAN WORDS IN THE NON-STANDARD LEXIS OF THE MODERN RUSSIAN LANGUAGE

Abstract

The vocabulary of any language is enriched not only at the expense of its own resources, but also through borrowing. The current activation of the borrowing process in the Russian language, mainly from the English language, is a natural consequence of globalization, language contacts in various areas of life, and, therefore, the language interactions. The English-originated borrowings have a great linguistic potential to create a plenty of derivatives. Being borrowed in the Russian language, anglicisms continue developing on the internal laws of the language, become a motivating basis for derivative motivated words, and in some cases can give branched families of words. The main sign of borrowed words is not just the penetration of them into the borrowing language, but the fact of their fixation in the vocabulary and complete submission to the norms of the language. The process of adapting borrowed words at each linguistic level is characterized by specific features and has different potentials for the full mastery of borrowed words. Intensively borrowed vocabulary from the English language is fixed not only in the literary standard of the Russian language, but also forms a certain part of non-standard vocabulary, especially slang and jargon, which is characterized by bright expressiveness and evaluation of colloquial style.
