BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF “CRITICAL THINKING IN PRIMARY EDUCATION” IN WEB OF SCIENCE CORE COLLECTION
Abstract
The study aim was to determine the papers published on “critical thinking in primary education” in Web of Science Core Collection Index database. The papers in all categories in this database were checked without a time limit being restricted to "critical thinking" and "primary education". There was retrieved 47 publications published between 1900 and 2018. The publications of the concerned topics start just in 2006. The average citations for an item is 0.74, and there are only 3 publications (6.3%) reaching higher citation index (1.0 to 1.6). 40 publications (85.1%) belong to educational research area. “Procedia Social and Behavioral Sciences” (22.5%) and “Inted Proceedings” (12.5%) are the most prolific journals in the “critical thinking in primary education” literature. The topic is being interesting the most to Kocak (7.5%), Ulas (7.5%), Goltsiou (5.0%) and Sofianopoulou (5.0%). The most important countries in the educational literature on the topic of “critical thinking in primary education” are Turkey (23.4%), Spain (14.9%) and Greece (10.6%). The number of publications on the topic of “critical thinking in primary education” in the educational literature being empirical researched is low (just 0.04% out of all publications on “critical thinking” topic). The critical thinking development needs to be emphasized from early childhood school period together with creative and caring thinking as stated by Lipman [7].
