Abstract

Over the years of socialism in Poland, golf was considered a game of aristocrats, therefore, after World War II to the nineties, not one golf course arose in Poland. The game itself was forgotten for years. Fortunately, this trend is reversed, golf is gaining more and more followers, a lot of new golf courses were opened. Golf is a sport maybe not massive, but popular. The return of golf to the Olympic Games in Brazil in 2016 for sure helps the return of golf to Poland. Although the Polish designers and investors had neither the experience nor has tradition behind them, Polish golf courses are similar to European ones. Golf Courses in Lower Silesia are located mainly in the metropolitan zone of Wroclaw city. Certainly as one of the few large-scale sports facilities - they have a significant impact on the landscape. Due to the rich cultural landscape of the region, golf courses have very diverse landscape - from the village one, to the golf courses at historic parks. A significant part of the objects was created on degraded or abandoned areas. New quasi-natural landscape allowed the landscape reintegration of the surroundings. Despite significant progress, it seems that local authorities still do not appreciate the role of the golf courses impact on the landscape and the possibility of restoration of degraded areas through such investments [1]. The specific way in which these investments were implemented is very important - in some cases they were designed and prepared by professionals, but in the most of cases created by the owners or golf enthusiasts. Article by reviewing the golf courses of Lower Silesia characterizes their landscape, shows its individual features and tries to assess an impact on the landscape. Description of transformation will characterize and define the scope and type of landscape processes and decide whether the processes are universal or are assigned exclusively to golf course investments.
