Abstract

This article deals with the specific features of medical net discourse. To identify these features, a comparative analysis of literature was made and texts posted on the Internet were also studied. These studies made it possible to identify the following specific features of medical net discourse: its linguo-therapeutic focus (i.e. focus on assistance to patients, prevention or correction of pathological conditions); subjective sphere heterogeneity and targeted openness (different educational background of patients); interactivity (attractive content design); gradual-institutional nature (the subjects of medical net discourse may be participants of both different and the same social status); multicode structure (combination of different communication codes, i.e., iconic, symbolic and verbal; Roman and Cyrillic scripts; alphabetic and numeric characters, etc.); genre diffusivity (lack of clear boundaries between medical net discourse genres); subject flexibility (diversity of medical net discourse subjects); spatial remoteness (possibility of choosing between communicative synchrony/diachrony (online/offline communication)); multiplicity of implementation modes and possibility of their superimposing (i.e., using oral and written speech or oral-written speech); hypertextuality (system of references from one medical net discourse to another); and procedurality (continuous development of medical net discourse on the Internet). Identification of these features will further make it possible to analyze the linguistic and communicative-pragmatic features of the medical net discourse. The results obtained in this study can be used in university courses in verbal communication theory, speech culture, discourse and intercultural communication theory, linguostylistics and text interpretation.
