Abstract

Due to its favourable geographic position in the centre of Romania, the tourist destination of Bra?ov has continuously developed. Being located in a picturesque mountainous area and having tourist potential which combines elements of the natural environment with cultural and historical values, nowadays Bra?ov has become one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Romania. Hence, the most important objectives of this paper were to identify the current changes in the tourism market and to highlight the possible directions of development which will maintain the competitiveness of Bra?ov as a tourist destination in the long term, according with those changes. The tools used for the proposed purpose were those specific to the statistical systems in the tourism industry, indicators taken from the DIMAST platform (a decision support system, designed to support the participatory management of tourism sustainable development within Bra?ov destination) and strategic management tools (the SWOT analysis).
