SAFETY OF CONSTRUCTION WORKS CONNECTED WITH DEMOLITION AND RECYCLING OF FARM BUILDINGS

Abstract

Civil engineering is a branch of the economy that generates many problems related to the entire life cycle of the facility. It is connected with the necessity of carrying out a number of various activities and processes already at the stage of preparing and planning investments and their implementation. Another stage, very important, lasting decades, is the stage of using objects. In engineering activities, the last stage of the object's life cycle is often overlooked, namely its demolition. It is a process that the law qualifies as a construction activity in terms of the complexity of works on a par with the implementation of construction. Beginning of demolition works requires many formalities. It is related to the fact that carrying out these works may cause a number of threats both for people carrying out work and for the natural environment. It is especially important on rural areas. Demolition works are often carried out using heavy equipment and explosives, and dismantled structures threaten to collapse. Because in practice it is difficult to find schemes or procedures for dealing with ensuring safety during demolition works, the aim of the work is to develop such a proposal with consideration of specific agricultural constructions. The following research methods were used to diagnose the problem and carry out the research: analysis of source materials, library query, advanced methods of data collection through online surveys, observation of works during demolition - field research. The diagnosis of threats is a starting point for further actions that constitute further elements of the safety management system. Since the determination of risk factors and the estimation of their potential negative impact is very important, the article presents a proposal for a quality assurance system for demolition works. Interpretation of the results obtained and conclusions regarding the protection of investments against threatening phenomena can be used to build a safety management system for construction investments. The article presents such a proposal.
