ANALYSIS OF TECHNICAL PROGRESS, ENERGY CONSUMPTION AND VALUE ADDED IN EUROPEAN UNION'S AGRICULTURE
Abstract
European Union aims to ensure food security and food safety by adopting the common agriculture policy. The adopted measures and strategies try to help each member state's agriculture to develop by investing in technical progress, good labor force management and a careful use of natural resources. In this context, the paper seeks to identify and analyze the evolution of technical progress, energy consumption and agriculture value added. Initially, a data comparison was made for European Union member states in view to analyze over the past years the technical progress indicators, energy consumption, and agriculture value added. Also, it is emphasized the Romanian position among member states. Subsequently, it was investigated the correlation between technical progress indicators, energy consumption and agriculture value added at European level. The results indicate correlations between fertilizers and pesticides consumption, energy consumption in agriculture and value added of agriculture, forestry and fishing, and could indicate weaknesses and strengths of Romanian agriculture by taken into consideration the European overview.
