INHABITANTS KNOWLEDGE OF CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION IN NITRA REGION
Abstract
The paper focuses on the level of knowledge of the inhabitants of the Nitra region in lay cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The authors deal with the issue of the current state of knowledge and in lay emergency resuscitation, approach lay first aid in Slovakia, including statistics of lay first aid through cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the application of an automatic external defibrillator, and teach first aid in Slovakia. The main goal of the research was to determine the level of knowledge of the inhabitants of the Nitra region about lay cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Using an online non-standardized self-designed questionnaire, 169 respondents participated in the survey. The research group consisted of residents of the Nitra region from the cities of Nitra, Sala, Zlate Moravce, Nove Zamky, Levice and Komarno. The selection of respondents was intentional and occasional. We used the Chi square test to verify our assumptions. We did not confirm the assumption that the level of knowledge of the inhabitants of the Nitra region in the area of providing lay cardiopulmonary resuscitation is low and also that the level of knowledge of the inhabitants of the Nitra region about the automatic external defibrillator is low. It was confirmed to us that the majority of the inhabitants of the Nitra region can recognize cardiac arrest, also the majority of the inhabitants know the telephone number by which the emergency medical service is called and they are trained in the provision of first aid. To increase the knowledge of inhabitants and the effectiveness of teaching first aid, we propose to organize experiential first aid courses, where it would be possible to practice the practical part of first aid in the form of casualty simulations, which would realistically simulate the conditions, injuries and health problems of the patient. Most effective result would be if the inhabitants participate yearly on these courses.
