SYNERGY OF TEACHING AND RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
Abstract
During the past decade the discussion about the link between teaching and research has been vivid. The discussion can be organised according to two opposed theses: the compatibility thesis and the incompatibility thesis. In the incompatibility thesis research and teaching are opposed to each other and time devoted to one implies less time for the other. The compatibility thesis holds that teaching and research have a positive influence on each other. Research on the beliefs or perceptions of academics or administrators about the relation between teaching and research indicates a strong perception of a positive relation between teaching and research. In other words, academic staff members generally agree with the compatibility thesis. This paper focuses on identifying the concept which encourages the synergistic effect of interaction between teaching and research activities. The methodology is based on the findings, analysis of documents and primary sources of expertise. The research is based on the methodology of linear programming.
