NEW APPROACHES IN HEALTH EDUCATION FOR REHABILITATION OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH WITH ACQUIRED BRAIN INJURY

Abstract

Rehabilitation after brain injury involves many professionals from hospitals, general practices and local structures. The present paper presents new approaches in rehabilitation education of medical professionals in the framework of an Erasmus + project entitled “Interdisciplinary cooperation in rehabilitation of children and youth with acquired brain damage NEUROPED-REHAB”. The project is based on collaboration between hospitals and research centers from France, Denmark and Romania and intends to describe a comprehensive multi-disciplinary, multi-sectoral and coordinated rehabilitation approach for children and youth with acquired brain injury - from the acute phase to the integration in society. Our aim is to develop an e-Learning platform with useful information for rehabilitation of children and youth with acquired brain injury. In order to attain this aim, we carried out a transnational research, study and analyses on labor market demands based on survey [1] and questionnaires addressed to the target group and potential users, focusing on specific issues (rehabilitation, gait assessment, etc.). The research also described the reference levels, certification principles and VET methods and programs in the field of rehabilitation in each country. The target group included the staff working in rehabilitation field [2] of the children with neurological and psychological disabilities, with emphasizing on young medical specialists. Research results showed a great interest of the target group in the knowledge of all the causes of acquired brain injury, the different evaluation methods, all the stages of recovery of children and young people with ABI and the information on discharge and the stage of school/social reintegration. Identification of initial needs will be followed by their validation against the project objectives, identification of best solutions how this will be achieved and identification of best resources and tools in order to create an interdisciplinary on-line collaborative platform with specific learning tools and content, supporting participants in acquisition of skills in the field of rehabilitation directly linked to their needs, expectations and labor market requirements.
