Abstract

The proposed paper introduces the research focused on the implementation of mobile technologies into Physical Education lessons. Mobile technologies can shorten the users’ time spent in physical (particularly motoric) activities. Our intention was to exploit the attractiveness of mobile devices and implement them in common lessons of Physical Education at the lower secondary school, and thus use their potential to support motoric activities. The paper is a follow-up to the pilot research conducted in 2016. It aims at discovering the answer to the question whether mobile technologies implemented in the process of instruction can strengthen learners’ motivation in the subject. Reflecting the fact that all classes of one lower secondary school participated in the research, the form of case study was selected to shelter partial methods of pedagogical experiment, non-standardized questionnaire and standardized tests (UNIFIT test 6-60, SUPOS-7 – test of subjective experience and state) and interviews in focus groups. At the same time somatic data were collected. All learners of the lower secondary level (12-15 yrs.) were included in the intervention programme for three months. In this paper the qualitative approach to the research is presented, i.e. results of interviews in focus groups; the quantitative results play a supportive role. The results show that mobile technologies implemented in the Physical Education lessons provided impact on those learners who do not spend their leisure time running sports activities. These learners appreciated our proposed activities, assessed positively the Physical Education lessons and in their leisure time they searched for and exploited other applications supporting sports activities. Totally, the shift was detected in motoric tests, statistically significant increase was discovered in persistence.
