ANDRAGOGY ETHICS – DISCOURSE ON EDUCATION, SELF-EDUCATION, IDEALS, VALUES AND NORMS

Abstract

The article introduces the concept of andragogy ethics as a peripheral andragogy discipline. Discussion of this concept is an expression of the interdisciplinary approach (andragogy, ethics and psychology). It justifies the need to study the development of moral character of adults in the contemporary. The concept studies a human being in current global challenges that neoliberal policies are not able to sufficiently cover. Strengthening of ethical and value dimensions as well as influencing adults through andragogy are seen as possible solutions. It offers three dimensions: personal – as individual moral and character integrity of humans (both the participant and the andragogist), institutional – as ethical rules valid in the activities of education providers and procedural – as ethical norms implemented into the aims, contents, methods, forms and means (adult education curriculum and adult counselling), and thus establishes a new field of research in andragogy – andragogy ethics. Clarification of understanding of the self-education process, the place and role of ideals in adult lives and also the circumstances of values and norms in which andragogy education and counselling is realized are included in the discourse about the ethical aspects of andragogy intervention.
