TOPICAL PROBLEMS OF DEFINING THE ESSENCE OF ECOLOGICAL TOURISM AND GROUNDING THE CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS OF ITS DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
The paper addresses the topical issues of the development of ecological tourism and its influence on the ecology and the economy of the regions involved in the development and realization of ecological tours. The paper aims to summarize and to specify the scientific approaches to identifying the essence of ecological tourism from the providersВ’ and customersВ’ perspectives, and grounding the challenges and prospects of ecological tourism development in the world. This research was based on the methods of expert assessment, economic and statistical modeling and forecasting, systemization and summarizing, which allowed for a complex approach towards this issue, taking into account numerous factors influencing the development of ecological tourism. As the result, the authors have grounded two scientific approaches to defining ecological tourism: as a type of travel and as a type of economic activity. The authors also have analyzed and assessed the current challenges and prospects of ecological tourism development in the world, proved with examples from different regions and countries. The materials presented in this paper have practical value for educational organizations training staff for the tourism and hospitality sector as well as for the tourism and hospitality enterprises involved in developing ecological tours and the state authorities regulating tourism industry development.
