DIGITAL DEMENTIA AND CONSPIRACY THEORIES
Abstract
The term "digital dementia" refers to the relationship of diminishing cognitive abilities of man and his excessive involvement in relation with social networks activities and cyber reality as such. The authors believe that the term "digital dementia" reveals some of the causes of loss of critical thinking, which correlates with an increase in young generation's interest in conspiracy theories. The article argues that it is precisely the loss of critical thinking that is associated with the phenomenon of an increase in the number of cults and increased interest in unwanted types of alternative spirituality. Current epistemology calls to embrace such challenges in education that would encompass development of critical thinking within this coming generation.
