GENERAL MILAN RASTISLAV STEFANIK (1880-1919) IN OPTICS OF CONTEMPORARY SLOVAK ART

Abstract

The study reflects contemporary Slovak art inspired by the personality of Milan Rastislav Stefanik from the perspective of his contribution to the development of diplomatic relations (Czechoslovakia – France), to the knowledge of the mysteries and laws of space (an astronomer), and the unbreakable belief in victorious battle against an enemy. It evaluates the immense merit through which he went down in Czechoslovakian and world history and surveys the features and acts of his personality that were inspirational for various forms of contemporary Slovak art (literature, music, musical drama, fine arts), or statics and dynamics in the interest to create works of art in the period from 1919 to 2019. The study question we are attempting to find a relevant answer to is raised as to which form of art gets priority in the way it is interested in the personality of Milan Rastislav Stefanik, or more precisely, which form of art was his contribution most beneficial for. The study does not intend to provide an exhaustive picture of the created artistic works influenced by the personality of M. R. Stefanik. It selects those artefacts which either reflect the broad scale of his personality for a reader or highlight the distinctive feature of his nature and unusual multidimensional genius.
