THE MOTIVATION OF ADULTS TO OBTAIN HIGHER EDUCATION ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE STUDENTS OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION OF TALLINN UNIVERSITY
Abstract
The precondition for the well-functioning society and the economic success is a highly skilled labour force. Improving the level of education helps to increase the competitiveness of people on the labour market and at the same time, reduces labour shortages and increases employment in society. The objective of our case-study was to determine the contributory and hindering circumstances of continuing education. Content analysis was used as a quantitative research method, which helps to measure texts by quantitative indicators or translate the texts into the language of numbers. Our questionnaire consisted of seven subtopics. Several categories and subcategories were used for encoding. The survey revealed that students consider acquiring higher education important in their self-realisation, however, the existing curricula and study forms often fail to meet the needs of the students studying while also working and raising children. Therefore, the possibilities for achieving higher education should be expanded in the long-term.
