PUPILS WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITIES AND THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH INCLUSIVE EDUCATION: REVIEW OF CZECH SOURCES
Abstract
1) Background: Inclusive education in the Czech Republic was officially put into practice in September 2016, after the new School Act had been approved. The question is what this fundamental change has brought to both pupils with special educational needs (SEN) and intact pupils. The purpose of this literature review is to identify articles that deal with personal experience of the main participants of the inclusive educational system – the learners with SEN, specifically learners with physical or multiple disabilities, aged between twelve and twenty. Valuable findings based on their lived experience can help to uncover important topics associated with this issue. 2) Methods: A search of the current literature was conducted, using a keyword process in databases Google Scholar, Theses and Library UPOL. The search included studies available from January 2012 to 1st March, 2018. 3) Results: Ten sources met predefined requirements and finally four texts fully met all the author’s criteria, nevertheless the number of research materials was limited by the availability to the author and to the Palacky University Olomouc. 4) Conclusions: The qualitative research based on the lived experience of learners with physical disabilities included in mainstream schools is rather rare and since it can bring important findings that can enrich educational process, other research in this field could be beneficial and important.
