Abstract

The purpose of the research was to study interdisciplinary as a set of theoretical assumptions and strategies that aim at a holistic approach to all varieties of disciplinary knowledge; somehow, it was stressed in the paper, that holistic principles, more often than not, presuppose associating transdisciplinarity with a certain world-picture; accordingly, the purpose of the research can be characterized as a kind of meta-theoretical methodology of the kind which always was the prerogative of philosophy. Thus understood, the research acknowledged the priority of the method which consists in critical self-reflection applied both to interdisciplinary practices and to their theoretical transformation, while the whole scope of methodological means, which were used or contemplated in the paper, included comparative, discursive, historical methods, as well as those of critical self-reflection, of scientific objectivity, etc. The research resulted in discursive clarifying of the term “interdisciplinarity” (its philosophical meaning and its cultural import) and in achieving a better idea of interdisciplinarity as a specifically modern phenomenon. In the process of comparative analysis, the fact of homological affinity between transdisciplinarity and political philosophy was confirmed which helped, at the final stage of the research, to reinterpret interdisciplinarity as an indispensable intermediary responsible for disciplines’ joint breakthrough to new cognitive horizons.
