THE ANCIENT TURKS AND SLAVS: CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL ASPECTS OF ACCULTURATION
Abstract
The article highlights the problems of acculturation between the ancient Turks and the Eastern Slavs until the time of adoption of Christianity by the Slavs, that is, until 988 AD. In addition, article considers Pagan ideological paradigms between analyzed ethnos, which were equipolar, but were not identical. This process continued until there was a sharp turn in their destiny and history - orientation to new sacral systems that began in 988 under Vladimir I. Although the ancient Turkic tribes continued to be in the bosom of dual Tengriism, and in the mentality of the Eastern Slavs pagan beliefs were preserved in the form of rudiments up to the XIII century and in later times in the form of prejudices. With the change of ideological paradigms, the relations between the peoples under study have shifted to the opposition state. This is evidenced by the ancient Russian annals and isolated inscriptions of ancient Turks, which indicate to these relations between the Slavs and the Polovtsians.
