THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE SLOVAK NATIONAL COUNCIL TO THE INDEPENDENT SLOVAKIA WITHIN HISTORICAL FRAMEWORK

Abstract

The content of the paper is aimed at analysing the contribution of the Slovak National Council in the Slovak history, which has often been questionable. In order to evaluate objectively its activities and merits, respective periods of the Slovak history have to be taken into account, as they witnessed significant political processes and events from the beginning of the 90s of the past century to these days. The Slovak National Council has always represented the culmination of political efforts hard to be fulfilled in a different way and by a different institution. Thus, one of the main goals of the paper is to put an emphasis on its crucial and decisive mission of the then and the subsequent political system in Slovakia. Through a historical and analytical perspective, it is to discuss its function (despite the problems with its institutionalisation), as a legislative board which fully enabled the Slovaks to realize their political visions, whereas having a significant and moral impact on the formation of Slovak identity. And at the same time to highlight its endeavours to implement the democratic forms of government, a life of national freedom, and cultural and economic prosperity.
