FREELANCERS: INDEPENDENT AND FREE IN THEIR BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to provide an insight into and give an overview of the concept of В‘freelancerВ’ and other closely related concepts; they sometimes appear interchangeably with it (e.g. independent professional) but might have a different meaning for an organization or can be different in legal terms. The concept has been studied from both the linguistic and organizational point of view, with the focus placed on its comparable usage in the Croatian and English. By analyzing available scientific literature and online websites dedicated to various types of freelancing, it has been noticed that there are both similarities and differences regarding freelancing and related concepts used in both languages and cultures. The results of this research will serve as the basis for determining the current situation with freelancers in Croatia from their point of view and of the companies that use their services. Moreover, the findings referred to in this paper will be used as the foundation for describing the related changes in the organizational structure and labor market resulting from working as a freelancer and hiring them.
