SYNONYMITY OF THE GERMAN LANGUAGE: THE PRESENT AND THE PAST

Abstract

The relevance of the topic researched is determined by general theoretical significance of synonymy relations in the language connections system. The object of the study is historical digression into synonymy. The subject of the study is synonymy in general. The origins of the consideration of synonymy are reflected in ancient philosophy. Ancient scientists in their reflections on the language form, on the nature of the name drew attention to the existence of several names for the same thing. This feature of the language has found its philosophical justification through the use of the category of “identity-difference”. This philosophical category is an ontological antinomy which determines the essence of synonymy [13]. The objective of the work is to study synonymous series, to carry out their comparative characteristics. To achieve this objective the following tasks are set: 1) to describe the synonyms of the German language and define their functions; 2) to compare the synonymous series of Russian and German.
