DISCOVERING NEWS DISCOURSE THROUGH TYPES OF DISCOURSE IT BELONGS TO AND TYPES OF DISCOURSE IT INCLUDES
Abstract
News has a deep impact on mass consciousness, which makes it extremely important to conduct researches on news discourse. However, by the news discourse, different researchers often mean absolutely different things. For this reason, there is a need to distinguish what news discourse is by describing its relationship with other types of discourse, which makes this research relevant. The article reveals that the genre differentiation of news discourse is determined by the way news discourse is defined. The work derives the definition of news discourse from the overview of discourses it intersects with (types of discourse it belongs to and types of discourse it includes) and presents three different definitions of the concept "news discourse". In the broad sense of the word (communication for the transfer of previously unknown information in the context of various factors which could affect this process (cognitive, socio-cultural, historical, spatial, pragmatic, etc.), news discourse includes any news message to the recipient, including comments and analysis of events outside the media. If we understand news discourse in a less broad sense, news discourse, in addition to the message of the news itself, can include analysis of news events and comments. In the narrow sense of the word (the communication to transmit factual news information material without news analytics and the author's own comments through the media in the context of factors which may affect this communication), news discourse includes only the texts of brief news items. Having considered various approaches to the definition of news discourse, as well as the main types of news discourse defined by different scholars, we note that brief news items as a genre or a type of text is the core for news discourse.
