REVITALIZATION OF MIEDZIANKA THE FORMER MINING SETTLEMENT AREA IN LOWER SILESIA
Abstract
Miedzianka is a small town in Lower Silesia, in region of Rudawy Janowickie, which has basically disappeared. Possessing municipal rights until 1945, today it is merely a village, with a few houses and a church being all we can find here. The diploma engineering project presents an interesting history of the former mining settlement and a proposal to revitalize post-mining areas for purposes of tourism. The aim of the student's work was to bring Miedzianka back to life, discovering or creating assets that provide the right conditions and opportunities for renewed harmonious development, making use of mining traditions and remnants of old times, and spatial arrangement carried out in a way that gives it new functions which will attract people back into this area - keeping in mind both the future residents and tourists driving the local economy. An additional goal is to stop the destruction of objects that have survived to this day. It is also worth mentioning here that the main idea accompanying the revitalization concept will be a new look at the problem of rebuilding a destroyed town. This is to take place without the classic understanding of the process of reconstructing old buildings.
