IMPROVING THE CAPACITY OF SOCIAL INTEGRATION THROUGH SPORT-RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Abstract
Introduction: The issue of the social integration of young people and the role of physical education in this integration process was debated by the international authorities in Strasbourg in the Council of Europe, UNESCO and the International Committee for Physical Education and Sport.A component of the educational approach, sport contains essential values of life in the community, favoring group integration by assimilating these values by citizens:respect for others, to the law (rules, regulations), discipline (self-discipline).The purpose of the research comes out of the title of our work; it consists in highlighting the efficiency of recreational sport practice in improving social integration by conceiving free time sports programs, so that they lead to positive effects on the social integration capacity. The research methods used in this study were: Scientific documentation; Method of investigation: Statistical-mathematical and graphical method of data presentation. The study is based on an inquiry, in which subjects were asked to respond in writing to a social integration questionnaire through which the subjects can know themselves and each other. The surveyed sample comprised 240 students from the University of Bucharest. The results of research: Total score average for social integration is 176.25 for the experienced group and 152.33 for the control group. The average of the experimental group is higher by 23.92 (15.7%). The magnitude of the effect (1.37) shows a large difference to very large between the averages of the two groups. The data dispersion in both tests is homogeneous. According to the LeveneВ’s Test for Homogeneity of Dispersions, the two groups have equal dispersions, Sig = 0.242> 0.05. The t test independent with p <0.001 <0.05 and df = 238 indicates in this case a statistically significant difference between the two groups reffering to the average of the total score for social integration. The research hypothesis is accepted. Conclusions: The practice of a program of sports-recreational activities exercised by the students in a systematic and organized way, contributed to their social integration and to the improvement of interpersonal and communication relations. We can conclude that the experimental research hypothesis has been confirmed.
