Abstract

The main objective of the article is to introduce a less known Slovak author Matúš Kavec. From the theoretical and practical point of view and the orientation of the study one of the sub-objectives is the characterization and interpretational analysis of the author’s work. In the context of the Slovak literature the author is being listed as a writer of the inter-war period. From the thematic aspect, the work of Kavec is divided into two main areas: urban environment and tinker theme. Since tinkering is a Slovak cultural phenomenon, it might be the reason why Kavec is unique and unfortunately not well-known author, what could be as well influenced by his Catholic religion which was not well accepted at the era of his main productivity. Altogether with Kavec the theme of tinkering was addressed as well by authors such as Vladimír Ferko and Andrej Ferko. The characterization of the current state of the subject and the autobiography of Kavec we've managed to obtain from the city museum of his birthplace, town Rajec, could be considered as a significant contribution to the research which targeted to identify and examine the reflection of the Slovak cultural phenomenon of tinkers in the work and production of the author we’ve decided to analyze.
