Abstract

The main aim of the paper is to analyze the possibility of introducing the idea of combining functions hitherto treated as conflicting in architectural and urban programming, i.e. office and agricultural functions. The combination of this type is, according to canons of urban design, an antithesis of the possibility of creating usable spaces. In recent times, however, the departure from intentional functional segregation has become a global trend, which of the extreme case is nowadays the idea of creating self-sufficient cities, both in terms of energy and food production. The effect of this kind of thinking is noticeable in introducing agri-urban functions associated with agricultural production, livestock farming as a kind of urban industrial production, but also as a form of creative recreation providing simultaneously human contact with nature, essential for health and wellbeing. Increasing pace of life and time spent in workplace, especially in office facilities, necessitated the improvement of their quality as the main place of human residence. Increasing emphasis on work comfort and improving the attractiveness and perception of office space as modern, following the latest trends in design and care for the quality of the working environment have changed the approach towards design in this field. A form that is partially forced by the IT industry to offer the most desirable employees not only convenient form of work and relatively high earnings, but also a comfortable, attractive and unobvious place to work. This paper is an attempt to answer the question of a relativity of this term as an answer to fashion or the real expectation of modern urban market.
