Abstract

The paper deals with the competitiveness of Slovak spa facilities and partly also with the competitiveness between Slovak and Hungarian spas. The main aim of the paper is to process and analyze the competitiveness in Slovak spa facilities through the use of all available information. The paper is divided into three parts. The first part summarizes the theoretical background of the examined issue; it’s focused on theoretical knowledge about tourism, spa tourism and balneology. It also deals with the theoretical knowledge of competitiveness, the impact of globalization on competition, the financial crisis and its impact on competitiveness and, last but not least, on competitiveness as part of the development of tourism in the Slovak Republic. The second part is the analytical part, where the methodology and the aim of the paper are described. The analysis of the competitiveness of the Slovak and Hungarian spas follows. The third part includes information and analysis of selected spa facilities, such as the Slovak Healing Spa Tur?ianske Teplice, and the Slovak Healing Spa Rajecké Teplice. The last part of the thesis is the conclusion part, which offers us also suggestions and recommendations for increasing the competitiveness of the Slovak spa industry.
