THE STATUS OF RLEIGIOUS FREEDOM IN THE 21ST CENTURY WITH A CONCENTRATION ON MONETARY LAW
Abstract
The direction I chose for my research applicable to the 6th International Multidisciplinary Conference on Science and Arts (SGEM) considers the state of freedom of religion in the 21st century with a concentration on monetary law. I am studying the relationship of religious law and international law in my overall research through analyzing life dynamics such as marriage, divorce, burial, religious holidays, and financial law in different states through 3 religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The international human rights regimes such as the UN Charter, Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the EU Charter on Fundamental Rights all call for equal human rights without discrimination based on race, sex, or religion. However, each religion has a different idea of what law actually is. Monetary law and the funding of churches pose an important question in the European Union and the other states such as the United States of America and Israel. Every religion has a different concept on monetary law, which may interfere with the law of the host states, although international law grants religious freedom to all. Which law comes first then? Religious law? Civil law? Public law? These are questions I aim at investigating through my research. Finally, I would like to find out if international law regarding religious freedom is really effective? Does it really benefit the religiously observant? Does it comply with other laws and rights outlined in the international human rights regimes? Is religious freedom for all a feasible concept or an ambiguous, vague idea, which can be interpreted as one desires?
