APPLICATION OF RESILIENT CITY CONCEPT IN THE CONDITION OF THE SLOVAK REPUBLIC

Abstract

Nowadays the world is changing in many ways. There is a significant influence of the climate change, which can make natural disasters even stronger than before. Moreover, the disaster consequences are more serious due to rising living standards in developed society, the rising level of urbanization, technological development, migration and density of population, and other changes in environment. The organizations of crisis management in public administration have to implement a number of measures to react to these changes and to adapt to the new situation. An important tool for such response and adaptation is implementation of the resilience concept. The purpose of the article is to highlight the importance of the resilience concept in cities and it is role for disaster risk reduction. There are few approaches for adoption of resilient city concept. In the paper, we are focusing on UNIDSR methodology. Main research results are focused on measures, which makes cities more resilient to the changes of climate and natural disasters. In the article is presented our theoretical framework of resilient city concept application in the Slovak republic conditions.
